The gite is located in the Aude departement, in the heart of the Pays Cathare and its "citadelles du vertige". In the valley enjoy the Canal du Midi listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List with its slow moving barges and by-the-water restaurants.

Going West, visit Castelnaudary, world capital of the “cassoulet” whose recipe you can learn locally. Enjoy the fairs and the port on the Canal du Midi. This rather flat region has always been an antique route linking the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean See. The main city Carcassonne is known worldwide for its walled City and its exceptional architectural wealth.
Sport activities are numerous: trekking, hiking, horse riding, golf, water sport at the lakes of La Ganguise and Saint Ferréol.
Visit Carcassonne, Revel, Limoux, the local wineries and other mystical places. Taste local products (foie gras,…) at the local farmer markets.

Main lakes and other bodies of water
Lac de la Cavayère (Carcassonne, Aude)
Very close to Carcassonne, this lake is about 22 ha (48 acres) wide and 23 m deep. Protected from strong winds, it is ideal for surf beginners. The lake has a beach with children playground and picnic area.
Lac de Saint Ferréol (Aude)
This man-made lake was built in the 17th century by French engineer Paul Riquet who also built the Canal du Midi. The lake is 67 ha (150 acres) wide and has several beaches. Take a walk all around the lake on the 5 km long hiking trail in the shadow of the trees.
Bassin du Lampy (Saissac, Aude)
This body of water is 23 ha (50 acres) wide. From the lake, numerous roads or trails will guide you through the forests of Ramondens and La Loubatière.
Lac de la Ganguise (Baraigne, Aude)
Built in 1977, this large body of water (300 ha – 650 acres) is located in the heart of the Lauragais country. This is an ideal place for water sports and fishing.
